Paweł Widera, PhD

Paweł Widera is a computer scientist, member of the Interdisciplinary Computing and Complex BioSystems group at Newcastle University. He received his BSc/Msc degrees from Poznań University of Technology, and obtained a PhD in Computing Science from the University of Nottingham. His PhD work won the gold HUMIES award for human-competitive results produced by genetic and evolutionary computation at GECCO 2010. Since then, he worked on a range of complex multi-disciplinary problems in biology, chemistry, plant science, and medicine. He specialises in computational search and optimisation algorithms, machine learning, statistical analysis, and interactive data visualisation. Most recently, he joined the APPROACH project to develop OA patient recruitment strategies utilising machine learning.
